Tips on Wide Leg Jeans

Category:

Fashion is fun partly because there is a huge wealth of dressing options on the market. Quite literally, there is something for everyone, every taste, and every style. But the number of choices we have to make when we're shopping (or even just getting dressed in the mornings) can feel a bit daunting at times. So it never hurts to have a few tips at your disposal, amiright?

With that in mind, today on the blog we're going to be talking about how to wear wide leg jeans, a stylish and oh-so-comfy alternative to the skinny jeans that have been dominating the jean scene. I'll walk you through the pictures below and show you just how easy it is to seriously rock this trend.

A huge thank you to the fabulous Plum staffers who styled and modeled in these pictures!

Lydia Rose paired her wide leg Mavi's (now only $49) with a cozy sweater and fringed bag, channeling the effortless esthetic of the 70's. The pendant necklace and bold print of the sweater keep the look pulled together and stylish.

Think wide leg jeans are not figure flattering? Think again. If you want to show off your shape, follow Amelia's lead. She tucked in her collared shirt and finished the look off with a wide leather belt. The long line created by her pendant necklace keeps the outfit from looking broken up.

If you want to dress your jeans up a notch, swap out a more casual top for a sheer blouse and blazer, like Lydia Rose did. Add some chunky jewellery and a textured bag and you're polished (but with a cool edge) for your evening out.

Heels or wedges look fabulous with wide leg jeans, particularly if you're petite, but I know not every woman is a fan of them. If you're apprehensive, look for a low wedge with a slight platform at the toe. This keeps the angle of your foot from feeling too extreme while still giving you a little bit of extra height.

And remember, there are no hard and fast rules in fashion. If you're unsure of how to style a particular item, just experiment with it. And don't forget to have fun!

Vancouver Street Style

Category:

Image

Well, hello there! For our blog post this week, we've been taking to the streets of downtown Vancouver in the name of style! Photographer Richard Dolmat and I were pounding the pavement in search of fun and unique styles to document for No Guru.

Image

Here's me, getting the ball rolling (and/or getting in the way of the photographer doing the test shot)

While there were those that breezed right on past, leaving my "I love your outfit!" trailing behind them, we did find some cheerful participants and some notable style to document.

So, without further ado, here's your outfit inspiration for the day!

Neon floral? Colour me green with envy

I spy with my little eye a gorgeous cardigan from Plum.

That's what I call a dedication to coordination. Love everything about this pic!

Image

I love colour in all its forms, but sometimes you forget that neutrals can pack a 'wow' factor too.

Coral and green make a great colour combination.

Two fashionistas (and two very different looks) at once! It just goes to show, there are lots of ways to be stylish.

A boho-chic dress is toughened up a notch with these stilettos.

If shoe envy is the sincerest form of flattery, this gal should feel very flattered.

We also  bumped into a gang of roving ninjas! One even climbed a tree. Gotta give them props for running around in all black in July. Hope those ninja suits breathe!

Scoping these street styles gave me a chance to reflect on all of the big trends that we saw over the spring and summer. Neon, florals, coloured denim, beautiful bold prints, we saw a bit of everything! But what I'd really love is to see some of the great styles you've been sporting this season!

E-mail me a photo of yourself rocking a spring trend (along with your permission for me to post it) and we'll consider posting it on No Guru! If you've got style, help spread the wealth ;)

E-mail photos to rebekah@plum.ca

Or if you just want to weigh in on your favourite trend from spring, you can leave a comment here, on our Facebook page (facebook.com/PlumClothing), or tweet me @PlumClothing

And if you like street style, here are some other great Canadian blogs you should definitely check out:

Danna from Halifax has a great eye for street style and documents it (as well as other musings on fashion and beauty) on her blog, YouLookFiiine

Stefania writes her street style blog, Textstyles,  out of Toronto. Textstyles is very visually interesting and definitely merits a look-see.

And for Vancouver style, StyleQuotient is a must-see. It's a beautiful website featuring stunning fashion photography.

Have fun!

When you wear a dress it should always say something about you.  If it is to a wedding, or a garden party, going out for dinner or even to work, you expect your dress to tell the world something about you.  You can’t say that about any other garment that you wear like you can about dresses.

We take great care in creating dresses that fit and are wonderful to wear.  Simone dresses are made in Vancouver where we can watch every step.  We care at Plum because Simone dresses can only be purchased in our stores.

Spring Colour!

Category:
Tags:

Shut up about the sweaters already!  We are so tired of wearing sweaters and the dreary dark layers of winter we want to scream!

Mostly because we are dizzy with anticipation for the colour that has burst into fashion this spring.

It isn’t just coloured jeans either … there is colour in everything from t-shirts and dresses to scarves and brightly coloured purses and accessories. Burnt orange, magenta and indigo in graphic prints like IKAT and polka dots.

Our favorites are the floral patterns that go from delicate mini blossoms and vintage bouquets to bright, bold oversized blooms.

Claudia, our designer says, “We're seeing a lot of clean bright colours like coral, red, green and yellow but there is also a soft romantic trend that features colours like dusty rose, peach and mint. Lace and vintage prints are part of this trend.”

Jackets for Spring

Category:
Admittedly, you may not have the chutzpa to wear flaming red jeans like we have in our picture, but the new blazer can be taken anywhere... dressed up or casual... it is all about your imagination. Try it with any of our coloured skinnies or a pair of dark denim bootcuts for a more sophisticated look.

This naval inspired blazer is a bronze-buttoned double-breasted classic.  Great quality for a great price. $175.

Here is our Tobias shawl collar cropped jacket, reminiscent of the famous Helmut Lang version. It can be worn over skinnies, a pencil skirt, or even one of our Simone dresses. Our version is a lasting investment at $159.

This Tobias linen jacket is coming in April.
